Scholarship Opportunities:
Serving local Students
At FirstUMC of Great Bend, we are committed to serving our community and supporting the next generation. One way we do this is through our scholarship program, which provides financial assistance to local students pursuing higher education.
Thanks to the generosity of our congregation and their families, we are proud to offer several scholarships to students who demonstrate strong character, academic commitment, and active community involvement. Whether you’re pursuing general studies or a specific field of interest, we encourage you to explore these opportunities. The application process is open each year from January 1 - March 15th. All applications must be received by the Finance Department of FirstUMC by that time to be considered.
How to Apply:
1. Review Scholarship Eligibility and Requirements:
Ensure you meet the criteria to qualify including the area of study.
2. Download the Application(s):
Scholarship applications are available for download below.
3. Complete and Submit: January 1 - March 15
Fill out the application form, gather additional documents and return it to the
First UMC office at: 2123 Forest Ave, Great Bend, KS

Renewable Scholarships
Beahm - Medical Field
Medical Field Scholarship
Barton or Rush County, Medical Major, firm Christian Belief, 3.0 GPA
Byers- Any Field of Study
Active church member, with a financial need to attend college, along with a firm Christian belief.
Brining-Educator Scholarship
Education major at a Kansas College, financial need, strong character.
Henry- Any Field of Study
Financial need to attend college, desire to further education.
(also for graduate students)
Banks- Any Field of Study
Active church member, with a financial need to attend college, along with a firm Christian belief.
*Teacher(s) from USD428 may be eligible.
Kopke- Any Field of Study
Barton or Comanche county residence, financial need to
attend college, genuine desire for further education.
(Students must be attending a Kansas College)
Non-Renewable Scholarships for any field of study.
Fanshier
Must be full time at accredited college, financial need, desire to further education.
Stone-Reinhardt
Great Bend, Ness City or Ransom High School, must demonstrate a desire for further education and to make future contribution to their community.
Not Renewable Freshman Year Only.
Penner
Can attend any college, trade or technical school, financial need, desire to further education.
Swartz
Desire for further education, show good character and
citizenship, good to above average GPA/ Grades
(Not in top 10% of graduating class)
